Fred has been partying a little bit too hard and neglecting his responsibilities. I Fred want to apologize for the delay of this post and as a result there shall be another coming soon.
So Hannah what do you see your role in the committee being?
Mostly making sure that everybody knows what’s going on at competitions, a big part of which is making sure that everybody knows the moves to the Macarena
How long have you been dancing, what level are you now, and on a scale of 1- 4 if someone was stuck learning a move would you be able to help them? 1 being more or less completely useless and 4 being Emma C.
I started Ballroom & Latin dancing last year so this will be my first year in novice, but I’ve done Irish dancing since I was little (not that that helps very much because obviously in Ballroom & Latin you actually have to move your arms) If I had to score myself I would go with a 2.6
What is your vice of choice?
What degree do you do? Why do you do it?
I study English & German which is a lot of fun because it means that I get to travel and talk to people for 4 years and then get a degree out of it!
What is your best/most entertaining memory of your first year at uni dancing? Do you have any tips for beginners to have a similar amount of fun?
That’s difficult because the whole year with SUBLDS was a lot of fun! One of the funniest memories was at Pure Dance (the annual university dance show) when we were waiting to go on stage for the committee opening performance; each committee had a strip of fabric that they had to include in their costume and George (our treasurer) showed his flair for fashion design…
My advice would be to just throw yourself into everything and give it a go, even if you’ve never performed in front of people at a show or competition just give it a try- you might find that being on stage covered in sequins is what you were born to do! (Genuinely, the guys enjoy the sparkles more exciting than the girls for the most part)
Recommend 3 songs, A movie, A book and what is your favorite piece of cutlery?
There are way too many songs so I’ll stick to dance music- No Sique Modas- DJ Ice (Samba), Frankie- Sister Sledge (Jive) and I Could Be The One- Beth (Foxtrot)
Movie- Say Anything (the 80s one where the guy holds the boombox)
Book- As an English student I should probably say something like my anthology of critical essays but that would be lying
Cutlery- Probably a cake fork because that means that there’s cake around somewhere
What is the coolest thing you have ever done? What do you wish people would ask you about?
Over the summer I travelled around 7 countries in 16 days which was a lot of fun! And continuing the food theme I would want somebody to ask what the most exciting pizza I’ve ever had was
What event do you most look forward to this year in SUBLDS?
I can’t wait for Bath Ball!
Why do you keep dancing at SUBLDS, when you have a degree to do, It seems irresponsible to me?
Well you’re probably right but I absolutely love dancing with SUBLDs so I always manage to fit it around my degree. It’s also a great way to exercise which has been proven to enhance brain activity so you could say it helps!
Any final words for the readers?
We encourage people of every level to come along and have a go at our taster sessions; even if you have 2 left feet, we can guarantee we’ve seen worse!
